Massive landslide turns 14 houses into rubbles yesterday and left the owners loosing millions of ringgit worth of residency in Bukit Antarabangsa, 6 km from my house. 4 people found dead while another victim was still missing. I can't imagine how the victims dealing with the fact that their mansion, cars, valuables are awfully terrorized by the force of the nature. It really dwarfed the sadness on spoilt of tens of thousand ringgit furniture, chandeliers, bedroom sets, carpets, glazing marbles and more than what you could imagine, a must for a bungalow furnishing.

Landslides occurred not only on developed hill slopes. It also happens anywhere in hilly landscape covered by virgin forest due to the natural occurrence of extra torrential rain that pours and raising up the ground water exceeding the normal level. The gravity will force the water to move down and if the cohesive factor of the soil is low and the porosity is homogeny, nothing would stop the water to brought mass quantity of soil slipping down along with it downward movement.

Whenever earth slips onto one's property, the typical attitude always made development as the main point of the blame game. In fact, why should we put ourselves in risk if we actually know the probable consequence? There is nothing to do with the property owner. Nobody cares on the necessity of doing an extra study on geology whenever they want to purchase a house unless one's willing to be labeled as extra-paranoia. Most people swallow all the assurance shoved down their throat by the developers.

Lets read what I’ve wrote to Utusan Malaysia back on 12 June 2005, when a landslide affecting few residence of Taman Zooview :

Nevertheless, I can feel the heartrending of loosing property; love ones and the aftermath trauma. I extend my condolence to those who are affected by this normal process of surface formation of the earth that always ongoing.
